Ritzy neighborhoods like Star Island, Miami, are packed with over-the-top properties owned by big names like Gloria Estefan, P. Diddy, Sylvester Stallone, and Will Smith. While their homes are certainly sights to behold, there are other more lavish properties that they don't hold a candle to. So let's take a look at the most expensive properties in the world and see exactly why their price tags are so massive.

Villa Les Cèdres

Located in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France — the second-most expensive residential location worldwide after Monaco — this 18,000-square-foot property was once owned by King Leopold II of Belgium, making it literally fit for a king! More of a palace than a simple home, Villa Les Cèdres comes with an Olympic size swimming pool, a ballroom, and a library of over 3,000 books. Plus, it's an equestrian's paradise, equipped with stables and space for up to 30 horses. If that wasn't enough, the $450 million home also has 20 greenhouses filled with tropical plants overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The One

Valued at $500 million, The One is not only the most expensive house in California but in the entirety of the United States. Located in the prestigious neighborhood of Bel-Air, this megamansion contains a 50-seat theatre, a bowling alley with four lanes, a salon, and a home gym. And top it all off, there's a running track and a moat that surrounds the house. Riddles with debt and legal issues, the house was sold for $126 million at auction in March 2022.

Villa Leopolda

Tucked away in the French Alps is a property once owned by Lebanese Brazilian banker Edmond Safra. Originally owned by King Leopold II of Belgium, the 50-acre property was famously used as a filming location for Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 film La Main Au Collet — To Catch a Thief. When not being used as a film set, people take advantage of its swimming pool, outdoor kitchen, helipad, commercial greenhouse, 11 bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, and vast gardens. Maintaining the grounds alone requires the work of more than 50 gardeners!

Antilia

Valued at over $2 billion, the towering skyscraper is located in Mumbai’s Cumballa Hill — the most prestigious neighborhood in India. Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India and the chairman of Fortune Global 500 company Reliance Industries Limited, owns the 400,000-square feet property. Elegantly designed by Chicago-based architecture firm Perkins & Will, and hospitality design firm Hirsch Bender Associates, the tower is both fashionable and durable. It's built to withstand an 8-magnitude earthquake. Some of its cooler amenities include a temple, a health spa, a salon, a ballroom, three helipads, movie theatres, and six floors of parking.
